Vintage Italian PV (Peasant Village) “Red Cabbage” Crown Bowl, Ceramic, Signed, 1966. Italian crown bowl, ceramic, orange, signed with plate. I don’t know if PV, which one often sees on vintage pottery from abroad means an actual company called Peasant Village, or from a peasant village on some countryside. I suspect the latter. I think this, and pieces like it, were made somewhere in Italy in an artist’s studio or a very small company with a special kind of kiln–maybe a salt kiln? I know that achieving this bright orange color in glazing pottery is very difficult. Orange and red are colors that you don’t see often in pottery because they are so hard to achieve. I think it’s something about the temperature of the kiln that must be reached. This is a medium scale crown bowl glazed in orange and decorated with raised jewel motifs around the band. Signed on the underside: “Italy 67137 PV”. PV (Peasant Village) was a U. Importer of Italian ceramics from1929 until the1970s. I don’t think that one is perfect, either. (12.7 cm) Diameter: 10.5 in. (26.67 cm) Style. Mid-Century Modern (of the Period) Materials and Techniques. Ceramic, Glazed Place of Origin. Wear consistent with age and u se. 5 tiny, small chips and 3 instances of repair on the pieces that extends up from the band. What are those called? Please look at all the photos and read everything I’ve written about the condition and description of this item. It’ll come to you from a smoke-free, pet-free, virus-free, fully vaxxed house. Thanks for the consideration. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Decorative Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware\Bowls”. The seller is “sugarbaber” and is located in this country: US. Vintage Signed Weller 3 Footed Console Bowl and Kingfisher Bird Flower Frog in Turquoise Blue Color. Incised Mark: WELLER on bottom of bowl (almost too light of an imprint to photograph – see the last picture which has been color enhanced to even read WELLER). Approximate Bowl Measurements: 2.5″h x 9.5″diameter; the Kingfisher Bird Flower Frog is approximately 7″h x 4.5″diameter. No chips or breaks or hairline cracks or restorations. As shown in the pictures, there are dirt marks on the bowl, we are just too clumsy to attempt to clean it. The first picture was taken outdoors in direct sunlight, so the color of the pottery in the first picture is lighter than it would look indoors. The Kingfisher is superb… The pictures may be enlarged to view the details. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Decorative Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware\Bowls”. Attributed vintage Charlie Parker fired stoneware burnt umber bowl with a unique glaze and light brown semi-circle pattern throughout. Signed on bottom of bowl. Medium and impressive design on a 7 diameter. Base of bowl is on a 3.25 diameter. There is one very small circular occlusion on the surface of the burnt umber that seems to be something that was there pre-fire or happened during the firing process and thus unavoidable–or perhaps purposefully occluded by the artist (see photos). Other than that question, the stoneware bowl is immaculate–clean and bright. Quick note about the artist. Charlie Parker’s ceramic career began in 1967, at the age of 14 when he joined Minnesota Clay Company as a part time clay mixer. During his apprenticeship with Westerberg, he focused on form and expression as well as glaze application and firing techniques. This piece by Parker would have been produced after his time in Minneapolis, where it is apparent how expressive his work was in the late 1970′s, in both glaze application, bowl design and firing techniques. This bowl is a masterpiece example of his early work and belongs with someone who can either display it or share it with others in some manner. In 1996, Charlie partnered with Russ Gustafson-Hilton and Stan Cowan to establish St Petersburg Clay Company. St Pete Clay began as a small studio with 12 members, a ceramic supply store and gallery. In 2002, St Pete clay moved to a new 33,000 square foot location in the historic Seaboard Coastline Train Depot, now the Morean Center for Clay. Through his experience Mr. Parker has established himself in the clay community as both an artist and educator. Charlie has won numerous awards in several juried shows such as CarftArt and the Morean Art Center. He has been featured in Ceramic’s Monthly and PBS/WEDU Arts Plus. His work can be seen in the Raymond James art collection as well many galleries though out the US and private collections.
