Vintage Italian PV (Peasant Village) “Red Cabbage” Crown Bowl, Ceramic, Signed, 1966. Italian crown bowl, ceramic, orange, signed with plate. I don’t know if PV, which one often sees on vintage pottery from abroad means an actual company called Peasant Village, or from a peasant village on some countryside. I suspect the latter. I think this, and pieces like it, were made somewhere in Italy in an artist’s studio or a very small company with a special kind of kiln–maybe a salt kiln? I know that achieving this bright orange color in glazing pottery is very difficult. Orange and red are colors that you don’t see often in pottery because they are so hard to achieve. I think it’s something about the temperature of the kiln that must be reached. This is a medium scale crown bowl glazed in orange and decorated with raised jewel motifs around the band. Signed on the underside: “Italy 67137 PV”. PV (Peasant Village) was a U. Importer of Italian ceramics from1929 until the1970s. I don’t think that one is perfect, either. (12.7 cm) Diameter: 10.5 in. (26.67 cm) Style. Mid-Century Modern (of the Period) Materials and Techniques. Ceramic, Glazed Place of Origin. Wear consistent with age and u se. 5 tiny, small chips and 3 instances of repair on the pieces that extends up from the band. What are those called?
