Over here in France a standard breakfast or “petite déjeuner” is a bowl, yes a bowl, full of café au lait or hot chocolate, or roasted chicoree and milk. They use a bowl so they can easily dip their croissants or baguettes into the brew. Coffee cups are just to small to adroitly make this manoever. There are literally thousands of different motifs an gosh knows how many manufacturers. No doubt they have been used for thousands and thousands of breakfasts over their long lives and now perhaps if you don’t plan to put them into service they are ready for retirement on a nice comfy display shelf in your kitchen or dining room. This beautiful collection of 5 bowls in tones of red and white. These bowls have seen quite a few “petite dejeuners” since the 1930s/1960′s but they are still very decorative if not practical. A Message To Our Friends. It has a been encore ” a moment” since I updated followers of green_stockings, lovers of everything FRENCH, bon vivants avec le bon goût, sensibilities that draw kindred spirits together. We are once again Moving. Not out of France, Mais Non jamais, rather to our house in the vines… The one we have been working on for so long. It is there we belong, surrounded by rural beauty and the peacefulness of nature. Where kids can run naked through the pastures and forests without offending anyone and I can once again hang my laundry to dry on a line outside where it can blow dry in the wind and smell divine. You know I have 6 boys don’t you? The bucolic beauty of the “blé” golden wheat, the gorgeous “grappes”grapes, the “cocquelicot” red poppies and “fleur sauvage” wild flowers await us all. Then the calm of an untraveled road sauf pour the “facteur” postman, and pulling veggies up from our own “potager” jardin for the freshest meals once again is reassuring. All in time to finish out the childrens primary school years in small stone country “ecole” school with our daily “pain” delivered into our mailbox when it’s too hot to bake… We can’t wait. Even the “etoiles” stars perform their theater nightly illuminating the heavens with a starry night fête we thrill to see. Because we’ll once again be living Outside we’ll have the chance to pull all the garden furniture out onto the lawns (I think I easily have 300 chairs) and all my eclectic collection of colorful linens for dressing tabletops and seat cushions à la bohemians that we truly are. So we’ll be a bit like vagabonds living out of our essential napsacs at first… Then gradually pulling more of the household over as we decide what will go where the best. It’s a bit of a conundrum. Yes I’ve got this four storied bourgeois house in ville piled high. It reminds me of the Jenga game where you pull out a piece and risk to have the whole thing tumble. I might find lost and nearly forgotten treasures, discover small furried friends distantly related to Mickey Mouse in our house then jump with a start to see those relatives of Charlotte about. I try to accept them as allies in our fight against bugs but all those eyes.. I just can’t figure out which two to look at. All in all I”m just so happy to be returning to our country home, our humble chateau, our baby’s “berceau cradle of some years ago. “Alors” Well Then I’ll be “fairing le triage” sorting out objects to sell so keep watching for surprises. I originally created my bowl sets rather randomly, based on a color or a motif. I tried to put in at least 2 special bowls in each set. Some colors are much harder to come across. You will notice I don’t have any white sets for example and only a few pink and purple, small childrens bowls are almost un heard of. These bowls can be used for all sorts of things: hors d’ouvres, candy display, flower bouquets etc. If you see bowls among my sets that you would rather have feel free to contact me and I will work with you to create the collection you want. I can regroup my sets afterwords. The item “5 Red & WHITE Antique Vintage FRENCH café au lait Cereal BOWLS DIGOIN Flowers” is in sale since Friday, March 29, 2019. This listing is for the set or group of 6 Swan shaped porcelain bowls or planters that you see in the photos. All six pieces are marked as you can see in the photos. Some research tells me that the mark indicates that they were made by the Schierholz Porcelain Factory of Plaue, Thuringia, Germany. Mored research tells me that the crown and shield with triple oak leaves mark was first used in 1910. Because of its relative simplicity, I think that this is probably an early crown and shield mark but I do not know the exact time periods that it was used. I believe that it is old enough to be considered vintage. There are three different sizes: One large swan measuring close to 8 inches high and weighing close to 1 pound 10 ounces; two medium size swans each measuring close to 4 inches tall and weighing close to 5.2 ounces; and three small size each measuring close to 3 ½ inches high and weighing close to 3.2 ounces. The condition is much like you see it in the 26 photos after the general description. There is varying wear on the small black triangles on the ends of the beaks that exposes the gold beneath. Close-up photos show 12 flowers with what looks to me to be broken or slightly chipped petals. I see one such flower on the big swan, 4 on one medium size swan, 3 on the other medium size swan, 2 on one small swan and 1 each on the other two small swans. The first close-up of a flower is of the broken one on the front of the large swan. I have provided close-ups of the rest of them. The chips or breaks on the flowers are not easy to see and I wonder if they are manufacturing flaws. There are a few very tiny dark spots in the glazes that I believe are from when they were made. I cleaned them up some they could benefit from further cleaning. There is a little soil on the unglazed bottoms. Otherwise, all swans are fine and as shown with no or cracks or chips or other breaks or signs of repair. My photos should give you a good idea of their general condition. I guarantee this photo to be as described and represented by the 26 photos after the general description. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them. Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors. 26 photos should load with this listing. Elegant Antique Collectable Center Pieces. Capodimonte porcelain’s brief. History of the Royal Factory. It is a style accredited to the very finest Italian porcelain, and its fascinating origins date to the eighteenth century when Charles VII took Princess Maria Amelia Christina of Saxony for his bride. A portion of the Princess’s fabulous dowry consisted of extraordinary examples of Meissen porcelain produced in her father, s royal workshop. An enlightened supporter of the arts, Charles immediately resolved that such beauty should be produced in Italy as well. In 1743, The Royal Manufactory of Porcelain was erected on the grounds of the royal place. It stood high atop a hill, and it soon became known to all as Capodimonte, which means top of the mountain. Different signs at the bottom of pieces show different time periods of productions. M ajolica is a soft earthenware ceramic, fired to the “biscuit” or unglazed stage at approximately 1100 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the plaster of Paris molds are removed, the resulting form is then covered with a coat of an opaque lead glaze. Later, when this has set or dried, the brightly colored metal oxide glazes are added on top of this first lead glaze coating. When fired for the second time, this time at 750 degrees, the interaction of the water which remained in the biscuit form, the opaque lead glaze and the final metal oxide glazes interact in the kiln to create the deep and brilliant translucent color specific to majolica. It is this glaze, the tremendous variety of whimsical forms, and the intense colors of majolica that make this ceramic stand apart from other wares and delight collectors. These techniques were developed from third century Middle Eastern glazes, forms originated in eighth century Spain, and united by the maiolica of Renaissance Italy. The Victorian majolica to which this site pertains was made during the latter half of the nineteenth century. Herbert Minton, a true visionary and astute merchant, saw the opportunity to introduce a new commodity to the English home. After decades of use of white ironstone, blue and white china, and other everyday drab stoneware, Minton recognized the need for a new ceramic. The time was ripe the Industrial Revolution was providing more disposable income. Minton correctly judged that in his Stoke-on-Trent location in Staffordshire, England, he had the facilities necessary for the production of majolica. His need for a glazing expert was fulfilled by Leon Arnoux, a French ceramic chemist. Due to difficulties in France during the third Napoleanic era, Minton was able to convince Arnoux to come to England and to join Minton & Co. In the development and production of Victorian majolica. Together, they introduced majolica at the Crystal Palace Exhibition in London in 1851, where Queen Victoria and the public at large became instantly enamored with the new ware. Mintons international artists drew upon the art revival styles from the Renaissance to the emerging Art Nouveaux. For the next forty years, Victorian majolica held a position of prominence at most of the major international exhibitions on both sides of the Atlantic. Large and small potteries, in England and on the continent, and later in the United States, produced majolica. By the 1870s majolica was a household word and was in wide every day use, both on the dining table and in the garden. At the turn of the century, however, production standards deteriorated, trends and tastes changed, and majolica became unfashionable. Majolica was unappreciated and largely relegated to “grandmas attic” for the first seventy years of the 20th century. A renaissance occurred in the seventies and eighties with the new general appreciation of Victoriana. Majolica became fashionable in home and garden decorations, books and magazines articles were written. It became an important accessory in advertisements in prominent magazines. Today, major collections have been developed, and finally, majolica has become recognized for its aesthetic, historic, and intrinsic worth. This is a beautiful vintage large handmade pitcher and wash basin bowl set. The bowl is a cream color with a blue edged rim. The pitcher is also cream colored with blue accents and has an arrangement of white daisies and blue forget-me-knots on two sides. The pitcher is 9″ tall and wash basin is 11.25″ in diameter and 3 tall. Pitcher & Basin set weighs 10 lbs. This item was made at Lakeside Ceramics with markings ” 65 BAM 83″. Both pieces have the normal idiosyncrasies of handmade ceramics and signs of wear from use. I have noticed one minor hairline crack in the bowls rim. The bowl has felt circles on the bottom to protect the surface it sets on. See pictures for conditions. Antique Vintage Ironstone Large Wash Bowl Basin Pitcher Set. Vintage 1890 Ironstone England! “Ironstone 1890 England” stamped on base. 2 Items: Large Wash Bowl & Pitcher Set. The color of the set is darker than pink, more like coral. Large Wash Bowl measures approx. 15 1/2″ Wide X 4 1/2″ Tall. 11 1/2″ Tall X 8 1/2″ Wide. There are no cracks in the set. There is two small parallel lines embedded in the finish on the underside of the bowl, they are NOT scratches. There are two very small chips on the underside of the bowl that I took close up pictures of for your review. These blemishes are not noticeable, I took a wide out picture for perspective and a zoomed in picture to show more detail. Overall the set is in excellent cosmetic vintage condition considering it is almost 130 years old! The prior owner must have been a smoker because the pitcher had an odor to it. I didn’t notice it and would not have noticed it-until I was inspecting the set to take pictures. Since I have cleaned the set there is little to no noticeable odor. This is a privately owned, estate sale find. Please study all pictures thoroughly with the zoom feature so you can see the cosmetic condition of this item in more detail. Check out our store.
