Likely English or French mocha ware in the’Aptware’ tradition. Lidded mochaware lidded bowl from the likely from the Provence region of France. Marbled earthenware in swirls in various shades of brown and beige. Lidded top with a central knop. Often called “aptware” after the region of France where it became popular in the 18th century. Some scattered glaze flakes, and one curious section where a raised daub of clay appears to have been applied around the time of manufacture (all visible in the images). A RARE AND EARLY SMALL FRENCH LIDDED TUREEN!
