Vintage 1960s Mid-Century Modern large studio ceramic bowl features a deeply expressive, organic aesthetic. The vessel showcases a captivating flamed or feathered drip glaze, blending rich shades of chestnut brown, warm amber, and honey-gold that cascade down the generous, sloping walls. The fluid, vertical glaze transitions mimic natural wood grain or tortoiseshell patterns, balancing post-war European design with a distinct earthy presence. Crafted from heavy stoneware, the bowl is finished with a smooth, reflective high-gloss glaze across both the expansive interior basin and exterior walls. Turning the piece over to inspect the base reveals a wide, flared ceramic foot ring surrounding a warm, unglazed ochre bottom surface that highlights raw clay swirls, natural firing imperfections, and a prominent kiln drop or drip spur from production. This substantial art object makes an impressive sculptural statement as a dramatic centerpiece fruit bowl on a vintage teak dining table, a grounding display piece on a living room coffee table, or an organic focal point on a low minimalist credenza. Its deep, fiery autumn color palette and grand scale allow it to seamlessly anchor mid-century modern, bohemian, or rustic contemporary interior spaces. 11.3″W × 11.3″D × 6H. Vintage condition with age-appropriate wear consistent with use. A prominent glaze hairline and firing separation are present on the underside base.

For your consideration is this large and unusual studio pottery bowl. It measures 11 1/2″ tall and 17″ in diameter. There are markings on the bottom, but I can’t say for sure if any of them are actually a signature. Also, there are many, many folds and rough edges incorporated into the decoration, but the only thing that appears imperfect is what looks like a burst bubble shown in photo 11. Never seen anything quite like this one. Please study the photos and ask any questions you may have.
