For your consideration is this large and unusual studio pottery bowl. It measures 11 1/2″ tall and 17″ in diameter. There are markings on the bottom, but I can’t say for sure if any of them are actually a signature. Also, there are many, many folds and rough edges incorporated into the decoration, but the only thing that appears imperfect is what looks like a burst bubble shown in photo 11. This is a vintage Gerz German Stoneware castle-&-grapevine-patterned 9-piece Punchbowl/Tureen set, with a lid and 7 matching cups, and was made in West Germany in the 1950′s by Simon Peter Gerz (Gerzit) pottery. Its function has been purely decorative, so it has never actually been used. Design: The bowl features relief images of famous German castles, including Burg Sonneck, Ruine Maus, and Burg Katz, and is decorated with grapes and vines.
