Large Unusual Vintage Mid-Century Studio Pottery Centerpiece Punch Bowl

For your consideration is this large and unusual studio pottery bowl. It measures 11 1/2″ tall and 17″ in diameter. There are markings on the bottom, but I can’t say for sure if any of them are actually a signature. Also, there are many, many folds and rough edges incorporated into the decoration, but the only thing that appears imperfect is what looks like a burst bubble shown in photo 11. Never seen anything quite like this one. Please study the photos and ask any questions you may have.

Pale turquoise glazing and decorated with rings. In very good condition; has a small edge chip-see photo. Measures 11″ wide x 5 1/4″ tall. Comes from the late Bill Stern who collected antique/vintage California pottery from a variety of makers. Stern founded the Museum of California Design in Los Angeles. Photo 6 from our Pacific reference book. Photos 7 & 9 show one of Mr. Stern’s books and an article from LA Times.

This is a vintage Gerz German Stoneware castle-&-grapevine-patterned 9-piece Punchbowl/Tureen set, with a lid and 7 matching cups, and was made in West Germany in the 1950′s by Simon Peter Gerz (Gerzit) pottery. Its function has been purely decorative, so it has never actually been used. Design: The bowl features relief images of famous German castles, including Burg Sonneck, Ruine Maus, and Burg Katz, and is decorated with grapes and vines. This antique Adams Pottery punch bowl features a maritime transferware design with “The Mariner’s Compass” motif and “The Sailor’s Tear” verse to interior. A fine late 19th to early 20th century example of Adams Staffordshire craftsmanship. Condition: Very good overall condition; general wear, fleabite to top rim, crazing present; kindly see photos.
