Here we have an absolutely stunning white-bodied sugar bowl with its lid. In the bowl and lid glaze you can see deep red, brown, blue and white glaze applied to the outside allowing it to flow creating this beautiful marbled agate decoration. The sugar has an attractive recessed foot and applied handles. The domed lid has an easy to hold button knob handle. On the widest part of the outside of the bowl there are small spots where this sugar rubbed against another sugar resulting in glaze loss before this was fired in the kiln. This was covered with clear glaze in the final firing. Measuring 6″ across the rim by 5 ¾” in height to the top of the handle on the lid, this is in. Original mint condition with no post production damage or repairs. Both the lid and bowl and rings like a bell when you tap them. The underside of the recessed foot is stamped “SARREGUEMINES”. This was a French pottery founded in 1790, they were to France what Wedgwood was to England. This is an extremely rare mocha decorated signed sugar and any advanced collector would be pleased to add to their collection.
Condition Is Good, See Images Carefully. Images Are It’S Own Description. Vintage Mochaware Bowl Pearlware Staffordshire English Pottery Blue Rims Decorative. Size Is 7 Inches Wide, And 5 Inches Tall From Surface. No Chip And Cracks.
The largest is 4.25″ in height with diameter of 8.25″. It has “England” embossed on the underside of the base. There are no chips or cracks or signs of repair. It does appear as if there is a linear scrape on the bottom but nothing that goes through the bowl. A few various stains on the interior which coincide with age and use. The second and smaller of the two bowls is rare and believed to be from the early 1800′s. 3″ in height with diameter 5.75″. It has some stains on its interior and has the addition of black thin stripes encircling it with a blue band. Again, no chips, or signs of repair. I can not determine any makers mark but appears to be of the same period as the larger one. Fine examples of bowls! This offering is for an antique Staffordshire Mochaware Bowl. The bowl features one wide band in a peach or pink color and seven thin blue bands. The bowl measures app. 3 3/8″ tall and 5 5/8″ in maximum diameter. There is appropriate crazing, imperfections and light wear with only one tiny 1/8 shallow flat flake off of the bottom edge of the foot as seen in our photo’s. The form is somewhat unusual I think in that the body of the bowl has a very slightly convexed curve rather than having an angled straight side. If additional photo’s are needed or you have need of answers to questions we do not address we will be happy to supply them. WE USUALLY SEND OUR INVOICE WITHIN 1 HOUR OF THE AUCTIONS ENDING.
