This is a vintage Gerz German Stoneware castle-&-grapevine-patterned 9-piece Punchbowl/Tureen set, with a lid and 7 matching cups, and was made in West Germany in the 1950′s by Simon Peter Gerz (Gerzit) pottery. Its function has been purely decorative, so it has never actually been used. Design: The bowl features relief images of famous German castles, including Burg Sonneck, Ruine Maus, and Burg Katz, and is decorated with grapes and vines. Typical use: It can be used for serving mulled wine, soup, or punch. Punch Bowl is 12″ tall (14″ with lid) & 12 wide, with a 4 liter volume. Gunnar Nylund was born in Paris 1904 with parents who worked as sculptors and designer so he really soon started hos own career as designer for the Danish brand Bing & Grondahl where he worked until 1928. After that he together with Nathalie Krebs established the ceramics workshop Saxbo in Denmark. In 1931, Gunnar Nylund was then asked to start working for Rörstrand in Lidköping, Sweden. He worked there until 1955, most of the time as artistic director. After Gunnar Nylund Carl-Harry Stålhane became the artistic director for Rörstrand. Gunnar Nylund freelanced for Rörstrand for many years after 1955.
