Here we have a tea bowl dating to the early to mid-1800s. During the 1700s and early 1800s tea was an expensive commodity and after tea was brewed, the tea leaves would be saved in tea bowls until the next use. The form is always consistent, they always have flared sides and a molded raised foot. Decorated with 6 thin white bands and 2 mocha bands. The tea bowl is nicely formed with a rolled foot and recessed base. When found, tea bowls are often chipped, cracked or stained from use. Measuring 6 ¼” wide by 3 ¼”. High, the tea bowl is in original mint condition with no post production damage or repairs. On the inside of the tea bowl you can see the darkened stilt marks from firing. The tea bowl rings like a bell when you tap the rim. Tea bowls are highly collectable and were made in a wide variety of banding decorations and sizes.
