Here we have an absolutely stunning white-bodied sugar bowl with its lid. In the bowl and lid glaze you can see deep red, brown, blue and white glaze applied to the outside allowing it to flow creating this beautiful marbled agate decoration. The sugar has an attractive recessed foot and applied handles. The domed lid has an easy to hold button knob handle. On the widest part of the outside of the bowl there are small spots where this sugar rubbed against another sugar resulting in glaze loss before this was fired in the kiln. This was covered with clear glaze in the final firing. Measuring 6″ across the rim by 5 ¾” in height to the top of the handle on the lid, this is in. Original mint condition with no post production damage or repairs. Both the lid and bowl and rings like a bell when you tap them. The underside of the recessed foot is stamped “SARREGUEMINES”. This was a French pottery founded in 1790, they were to France what Wedgwood was to England. This is an extremely rare mocha decorated signed sugar and any advanced collector would be pleased to add to their collection.

This is a vintage Fiesta Ware #4 mixing bowl in the ivory color made by Homer Laughlin. The first 5 fiesta ware colors were introduced in late 1935 early 1936. This bowl has the bottom inner rings so it was made from 1936 until early 1938 only. The later production bowls (mid 1938) has a smooth bottom with no rings. The bowl is about 5 5/16th inches tall and about 7 11 /16th inches across This piece is in very good used condition for its age. There are no cracks, crazing, or repairs that I can see. There is one pin head sized nip on the outside edge of the rim as shown in the photos. There are five pinhead sized glaze pops on the inside of the bowl as shown in the photos. I can not find any utensil marks when I inspected the bowl. The foots glaze skips as shown that was most likely caused by contact with the resting surface before the glaze was dry. The other bowl is approximately 14 1/4 in diameter on top. The bottom of the bowl has a small 4 1/4 diameter inset pedestal. They are all signed B. All of the pieces are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Below is the 1998 LA Times article that gives accolades to the California artist Brenda Holzke the originator or B’Ware Malibu. SoCal Style / Home. Fashion Plates : Outfitting the Well-Dressed Table With Hand-Painted Accessories. For ceramics designer Brenda Holzke, setting the table should be as much fun as getting dressed up. In fact, she likes to think of her oversized, hand-painted dishes in solids and fanciful patterns as a ready-to-wear wardrobe for the dining room. “I provide the basics, and you can mix them the way you like, ” she says. It can be fun and funky or more traditional, depending on how you put them together. Holzke, 37, an Art Center College of Design graduate and former advertising art director, began painting custom dishes for friends as a hobby in the early’90s. “I wanted to do something more creative, and I’d always loved the idea of functional art for the table, ” she recalls. Two years ago, she and her husbang, Harry, launched B. Ware Malibu, offering dishes, plus everything from teapots and cigar trays to candlesticks and bud vases. To keep up with her growing customer list (Paula Abdul, Janet and Wayne Gretzky, even Saudi Arabian royalty), the company recently moved to Westlake, where 15 young men and women (some of them graffiti taggers now gainfully employed) mold fruit and floral decorations and paint each piece individually. Not surprisingly, Holzke draws her design inspiration from the fashion world. A’50s apron led to a set of dishes with daisies set against blue gingham and polka dots. The newest collection features pieces in two prints and nine solid colors that are adorned with either a sculpted pansy or calla lily. “I was after luscious, yummy colors, ” Holzke says. After the whole collection was together, it reminded me of a painting by Monet. ” Hence the line’s name, “Monet’s Garden. So what’s with the unusual name for her company? “People associate dishes with breaking, ” she explains with a smile, and I thought B. Ware would be easy to remember, as in: Beware–they can break!
