Unique scandinavian style art ceramics porcelain or stoneware bowl. Mid-century pottery by Aune Siimes from 1940s or 1950s Arabia Finland. High quality thick handmade bowl with very beautiful purple, gray and green speckled glaze. In wonderful condition without any defects. Minor manufacturing related chip on the table bottom. Stands 6.5 cm tall. Widest diameter 15 cm. (2.5″x 5.75″). Her career at Arabia was from 1932 to 1964. She was well known for the groudbreaking work with thin porcelain but also with thick bowls. It was said that she worked in a constant search for new glazes – and when she was inspired by one, she threw or built bowls and vases as a vessels for the particular glaze. She threw and built all her objects herself. Paris world fair 1937 with a silver medal. Triennale Milan 1951 & 1954 both with a gold metal. Her works were presented in various exhibitions by Arabia. Stockholm Nordisk konsthantverk 1946. Amsterdam & Den Haag 1950. New York & Zurich 1951. Private exhibition with Kyllikki Salmenhaara in Helsinki 1952. Helsinborg and Milan 1957. Numerous “Design in Scandinavia” – tours in USA, Canada, Germany and France. Her work has been chosen to the collection of Victoria & Albert museum.
A NED FOLTZ 17.5″ long Redware Pottery Bowl, 3.5″ high. In very good condition without chips, cracks or repairs. The date and signature is there but harder to read. See the last pictures. We believe the date is 1993. Nice thick pottery so the bowl is heavy.
Each continued to operate separately after the merger. Crescent, Delaware, Empire, and Enterprise made vitreous china sanitary wares. Equitable made tableware and hospital ceramics. The goal of the merger was to. Produce sanitary wares similar to those made in England. Makers mark from Trenton Pottery Co. On back is clear, also marked with Vitroware Co. Seattle on the top. Overall the condition is very good. No major defects, some staining as shown.
