Exquisite Decorative SMOOTH RIM 14 Sided Set of 11 Rimmed SOUP BOWLS from W. DESCRIPTION: The beautiful smooth rim decorative plate was decorated with the Green Chatsworth pattern. The design of the pattern includes a large floral spray in the center of the bowl and 6 smaller sprays spread around the wide, flat rim. The bowl’s scrollwork embossing is decorated with gold highlighting. It is very unusual to find the Chatsworth pattern in a true green. CONDITION: While this set of 11 rimmed soup bowls is classified as used, the condition is very good, particularly considering their age. Five of the bowls have very minor flakes on the back rim. Another has a tiny nick the front rim. There are no cracks, rubbings or hairlines. There is some very fine crazing as is normally evident on this type of china produced in this time period. As is normal, the 3 stilt marks are evident on the back of the bowls, but they are not prominent. See the photos to observe the condition for yourself. The bowl’s gold either shows some wear or was not evenly applied. There is no utensil scratches from use on the center of the bowls. These noted issues really are minor and do not affect the beauty or functionality of the set. DIMENSIONS: The bowls have diameter of 8 15/16″ with a height of 1 3/8″. HISTORY/MARKS: William Harry Grindley founded his pottery at the Newfield Pottery in 1880 at Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. In 1891, the company moved to the Woodland Pottery. Exquisite Decorative CFH/GDM Charles Field Haviland (Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel), ROUND Covered SOUP TUREEN , Pink Brown Yellow Green on White w/Gold. DESCRIPTION: This features sprays of pink and yellow flowers with green and brown leaves sprinkled over the high white porcelain. There are even 3 sprays inside the bowl. The handles are heavily embossed and swirl to form a unique shape. The gold paint highlights the shape of the handles. The bowl and its lid are both embossed with a swirling design on the lid. The lid sits inside the bowl, but has a flange that overlaps the top of the bowl. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative set is superb. We can find only one tiny manufacturing defect and no damage. Look at the 1st and 11th photos. Find the black dot next to the bottom rim (which is a common dot from the ash of the coal fired kiln). Just below that is a 1/8 inch slip crack which formed when the piece was pulled from the mold. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The elegant round tureen is 11 1/4″ handle to handle with a diameter of 8 7/8″ and a height of 3 7/8. The lid’s diameter is 9 1/4. With the lid in place, the overall height is 7 1/2. HISTORY/MARKS: Charles Field Haviland was the nephew of David Haviland. Charles Field in 1858 married Loiuse Alluaud, the granddaughter of the Alluaud porcelain family. In 1876 management of the firm was entrusted to Charles Field Haviland and the pottery’s name was changed prior to his retirement in 1881. The partnership of Gerard, Dufaisseix & Morel took over. The whiteware mark was changed to have the GDM under the CFH. Morel ceased to be a partner in 1890. This item was manufactured by GDM (Gerard, Dufaisseix & Morel) at their Rue De Nexon pottery in Limoges, France. This is one of the successors to the CFH pottery. It has the green CFH/GDM backstamp with France written under it which came into effect with the partnership between Emile Gerard – Director, Jean-Baptiste Dufraisseix – Decorator, and Morel in 1891. This mark continued in use until 1900. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description. The stand was used as a photo prop and is not part of this listing.
