This lovely, Mid Century Modern Faience bowl with a leaf motif painted on a cream background was designed by Stig Lindberg and was produced in Gustavsberg Studio in Stockholm, Sweden in the 1950s. The bowl is 17.5″ long, 4.25″ wide, and sits 1.75 high. It is vintage and used. There is a tiny chip in the glaze at the very tip, so small we almost missed it (see photos). The terra cotta “foot” ring on the bottom has a few expected scuffs from having rested on various surfaces. For the Gustavsberg Studio in Stockholm, Sweden, Stig created a wide range of Faience pieces, many in stylized natural patterns such as this bowl. Faience pottery features a non-clay terra cotta that uses crushed quartz or sand. The tin glaze produced a creamy white color, and Gustavsberg employed many skilled painters to fulfill Stig’s designs.
