Vintage Revival Period San Juan Pueblo /. It measures approximately 5 1/2″ H x 6 1/4″ W. Please examine all pictures and the short video very closely as they constitute. The majority of the description. This is a heavy pot, weighing nearly 4 pounds! The carving and painting are all very well done, clean and sharp. This is a polychrome Potsuwii-style jar decorated with a four-panel painted and carved feather, kiva step and geometric design around the body. 6.25 in W by 5.5 in H Condition: Very Good Signature: Rosita De Herrera San Juan Pue, N. From the Kings Gallery and the Salazar Rio del Norte Center. Pottery from San Juan Pueblo (today known as Ohkay Ohwingeh) has long been prized. Before 1900, San Juan pottery was either red-on-tan or polished black and usually not decorated. In the 1930s Regina. A Spanish woman who had married into the pueblo, introduced a new style of pottery. Regina organized a group of potters, including Reyecita A. Trujillo and Tomasita Montoya, whose pots the museum is fortunate to have acquired. The shards had been discovered in the abandoned ancestral village of San Juan, across the Rio Grande from the current pueblo. This new style of pottery consisted mostly of red ware. The rim and base of the pots are usually polished red with an unslipped, buff-colored band in between. The band is either carved and decorated with red, buff, and white matte paints or incised with a micaceous slip, which is applied before the firing of the pot. Flowers, feathers, kiva steps, spirals, rainbows and sun/cloud patterns. I DOUBLE BOX 99% of my POTTERY and most other items except jewelry, which gets its own special treatment. I DO NOT use crumpled newspaper or similar materials for cushioning. I use appropriate crush strength boxes and do not skimp on packing materials. If you want special instructions for the carrier, let us know immediately so we can add that to the label. So, keep an eye on the tracking so you know when it arrives. If you require a personal signature, please notify us BEFORE paying so I can send an accurate invoice. Even this is no guarantee, as some providers have opted to sign for you, but they left it (a lot of good that does). I do not claim to be an expert. I simply provide great pieces at reasonable prices to create great value. I do my best to document all items accurately and to the best of my knowledge. I try to take photos that are as true to the actual color as possible. But keep in mind, every monitor shows colors differently. I attempt to depict any defects or imperfections in the description. Please examine all pictures and video (if available) closely, as they constitute the majority of the description and may help catch anything I miss when writing it. If you want additional close-ups or a different angle, feel free to request them. PLEASE contact me prior to leaving feedback should this be the case. This is my #1 priority. If you are a collector of Native American Pottery, Jewelry, Kachina, basketry, and hard-to-find/unusual items in great shape, please add my store to your favorites so you can be notified of authentic vintage Hopi, Navajo, Zuni, and other Native American items as I list them.

AA battery for reference. I’m not sure exactly when it was made but she started dating her pieces after 1994 so this would be before that in fact, her website states that this particular style was made between the years 1980-90. Please view all photos carefully, no cracks of chips. If you need better photos, please message me. Thank you and happy eBaying! I started my first studio in 1973, the day I graduated from college. I worked for the next 18 years at realizing the dream of being an independent and successful studio potter. In 1991 I went to live in Ireland for a year, fighting burnout and trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. A chunk of the earth, plus the added aspect of alchemy, that change-from clay or “primordial ooze”-into something of substance and form, along with the fear and magic of fire, is what I think brought me back to clay and the studio after the extended time off from the making of objects with these hands and earth-and it is that spirit and beauty that I want to convey to others.
