Hand-thrown from a durable, heavy stoneware clay body. The interior basin features a brilliant satin-matte cream glaze, beautifully punctuated by a dense, natural iron-spot “speckling” that emerges natively from the clay body during the kiln firing. Cutting boldly across the face of the dish is an inlaid, abstract geometric chevron (V-shape) segment. The dark, unglazed earth-tone section is heavily manipulated with intricate, deeply carved abstract incisions reminiscent of natural bark, fossilized twigs, or volcanic striations. This rough, brutalist texture creates a magnificent tactile contrast against the smooth, glassy glaze surrounding it. The reverse displays a cleanly trimmed, unglazed foot ring revealing the raw, gritty personality of the natural stoneware clay. Centered perfectly within the foot ring is the artist’s hand-incised, elegant cursive signature. This piece has been remarkably well-preserved. Free of chips, cracks, hairline fractures, or structural repairs. The glaze remains bright and clear, showing no signs of heavy utensils use, scratching, or dulling.
