On offer is the lovely vintage low bowl made by Rookwood Pottery in 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio. This bowl features a beautiful aqua/blue/green glaze over a lighter colored base. The bowl is molded and has a band of well-defined lily pads and waterlilies in high and low relief around the shoulder of the piece. The piece is in great condition and must have been used for several years to display flowers as there are water stains inside the bowl, please see pics. It shows well and is a harder to find example of Rookwood pottery. The piece is about 5.5 inches in diameter, the opening is about 4 3/8 in. It is approximately 3 inches tall. The bowl has 4 feet which elevate it. From surface and give it more prominence. This bowl would be an excellent addition to a Rookwood collection and would be a nice accent piece in an Arts and Crafts/Mission setting. It will be mailed from our smoke, pet free home. Please see our other listings as we have many vintage items on offer, including many pieces of Rookwood.
This arts-and-crafts piece has a rolling wave design encircling the body and an undulating top rim. The bowl is in excellent, near-mint condition with no chips, no cracks, light crazing and no repairs. The piece is almost 2-1/4″ tall, 4-1/2″ wide at the shoulder, and 3-1/4 wide at the top rim opening. The base of the pottery is stamped with the Rookwood Pottery flame mark, the shape number 974D and the production year XI (1911). The base of the piece has been ground flat to level it with stilt marks visible. This gorgeous glaze combination is a matte, yellow ochre drip underglaze with an ever-so-slight green overspray that is just barely there. The yellow glaze has curdled beautifully on the bowl creating a gorgeous “frosted” effect. Glaze drips are visible on the piece as well as light peppering and tiny glaze pinholes. Mold seams are visible around the body. This little piece also shows evidence inside of having been hand-turned along with a small, glazed-over clay tag. The bowl is very clean both inside and out but with evidence of gentle use. Check out all 9 photos! This special little cabinet piece would be perfect for any Rookwood or American art pottery collector. Check out my other pottery listings! Please let me know if you have questions.
