Denise Chavarria continues inthe path of her grandmother, Teresita Naranjo, and her mother, Stella Chavarria, making traditional black on black pottery for which Santa Clara is well-known. Clay near the pueblo isgathered, cleaned and prepared. Thetraditional hand coiling method is used to create the shape of the pot. It isfired in an outdoor pit and hand polished. Since the 1990s Denise hasparticipated in and won awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the New MexicoState Fair and the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show. This pot has a dramaticcarved swirl around the entire body of the highly polished pot. A well-used pot, unsigned, possibly from Zuni. This vintage thin-walled bowl was made in the traditionalhand coiling technique. The repeat pattern running around the outside of thebowl is painted with natural plant pigments. The pot has seen a lot of use andis worn and chipped in many places but the painted design still stands outclearly. Each of our pieces is unique and carefully photographed. Vintage Australian Pottery Gumnut & Gumleaf Small Lidded Bowl – E Bryce Carter. A great piece of early Australian pottery. This small green lidded powder bowl stands 8 cm in height from the top of the handle to base and 10.5 cm in diameter. It has a mottled green matt glaze and the lid is decorated with gumnuts and gumleaves. Signed to the base E Bryce Carter Sydney with the number 112. According to the Powerhouse Museum Emily Bryce Carter signed her pieces as E Bryce Carter whereas her son signed his pieces Eric Bryce Carter. (I have been informed by a watcher that this piece is by Emily Bryce Carter – thank you). There is no damage – only a run on the underside of the lid which is photographed.
