Tigua Indian pottery bowl was made by hand with natural clay and hand painted with traditional patterns and colors of the Tigua Indians. Signed and made by “Irene”, and “88″ for 1988. Black, rust on white hand painted fluid design. Looks like an open mouth and teeth, along with neatly placed geometric symbols and designs. Approximately 2.75″ H x 3.75″ W. Early Angela Baca Melon bowl with 24 ribs, signed on bottom “Angela Baca Santa Clara”. Measures 4.5″ Tall, 6″ Wide. Angela, who was born in 1927 and had been potting since 1955, had undoubtedly one of the longest active potting careers in Santa Clara Pueblo. She was the daughter of Severa Tafoya, one of the better known potters of the middle 20th century. Angela was a melon pot specialist making various sizes in both red and black. She had three children, David, Alvin and Leona, who also make nothing but melon pots. One could say that Angela was the matriarch of the First Family of Santa Clara melon pots.
