Vintage Mexican folk art. Tecomate clay pottery bowl. A tecomate bowl is shaped by hand. Into a gourd form using coils of clay. And the surface was finished by burnishing. The very word tecomate means gourd. The coil striations can be subtly seen. On the exterior, felt and seen on the interior. Hand painted and shaped by hand. Beige background with a neutral. Circular motif of feathered leaves. And flowers, flora and fauna. I photographed this bowl slowly. Working around the motif to capture. The intricacy and perfection in detail. The paint is still vibrant in its neutrality. The glaze still has a wonderful sheen to it. The bottom has a definitive circular. Black ink stamp MADE IN MEXICO. Along with a penciled French number seven. Measures 5 and 1/2 in height. Opening at top is. 3 and 1/2 in diameter. (as seen in photos). Large, Vintage, Decorated Mexican Pottery Bowl Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage, Mexican Tlaquepaque pottery bowl. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This big piece is approximately 6 1/4 inches tall, with a maximum width of about 11 7/8 inches. Unpacked, this weighs about 4 pounds 1.0 ounces. This piece is blue, with multicolored decoration which is mainly blue, green, yellow, and black. The interior has floral decoration and the exterior has scenic decoration which includes pack burros, agaves, cacti, deer, a palm tree, and a man. This piece would be a charming addition to a collection of rustic Mexican folk art pottery. Identification This vintage piece is Mexican, made in the Tlaquepaque style. Condition The bowl displays well overall, but it is not perfect. It has glaze crazing, some of which has darkened. There is a fine hairline crack from the rim downward, extending about 1 3/4 inches (visible in the 6th photo, left hand side). It is difficult to discern as a hairline crack rather than a craze line, but this is the only line that I found that appears to go through the clay to the opposite side. There are scattered, small glaze flakes to the top rim, interior, and foot. There are some minor clay chips to the foot. There is a minor scratch to the side. As made, there are minor manufacturing flaws on this rustic pottery item, such as rim asymmetry, variations in glazing, minor surface flaws, etc. In some areas, the decoration is blurry or faint.
