This stunning Rowantrees bow is an older piece and getting hard to find. 5″ wide and 3.5″ high. The bowl is in excellent condition with no damage. This bow has “ROWANTREES BLUE HILL ME” stamp. The hand thrown bowl is well executed with prominent throwing finger ridges on the interior. The piece is finished in a striking blue green gloss glaze with gun metal gray on the bottom. Rowantrees was founded by Adelaid Pearson in Blue Hill, Maine as part of a handicraft program c. 1934 which trained local villagers in hand built and wheel thrown pottery. The pottery grew into a professional undertaking with the development of sophisticated glazes in the early 1940′s. Pieces were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (NY), New York Society of Ceramic Arts Exhibition (1945), the National Exhibition in Washington, D. Very Nice Vintage Large Damariscotta (Maine) Pottery Serving Bowl signed 1983. I cannot make out the signature of the person who made the bowl. There are no chips, cracks or flakes noted. The is some surface crazing. The bowl measures 10 1/2″ in diameter and about 4 1/2″ deep. It is exceptionally heavy. Terrific pair of bowls or dishes by Denis Vibert, Pine Tree Kiln, Sullivan, Maine, mid to late 20th century, redware in slightly convex rectangular form with rounded corners, each finished in a light gray high glaze with impressed natural leaf patterns in blue, approx. 8″ x 6″ x 1-1/4″ overall, each marked “Vibert Maine. In excellent, perfectly preserved condition, with no cracks, chips, or crazing. A particularly striking duo from this renowned British-born Maine art potter (1919 2004), whose works have been exhibited in a Smithsonian traveling exhibition and at the DeCordova Museum, Worcester Art Museum, Colby College, and University of Maine, among other venues.
