VTG Joy Imai Studio Pottery Low Bowl 9 Iridescent Copper Turquoise Signed. Low, wide studio ceramic bowl by Palo Alto artist Joy Imai, distinguished by an iridescent copper and turquoise glaze that shifts in light from deep teal to burnished bronze. The interior reveals concentric throwing rings beneath a luminous crackle surface, while the rim is accented with applied sculptural shell elements that introduce a subtle coastal reference. The gold-painted signature on the underside confirms studio origin and late 20th-century authorship. Balancing functional vessel and sculptural object, the bowl embodies California studio pottery’s dialogue with Japanese-influenced restraint and natural patination. Its reflective surface animates a tabletop or shelf, making it equally suited to ikebana, decorative display, or use as a refined centerpiece in a curated interior. 2.75″H x 9″ x 9. Weight: 1.10 lb. Vintage: the mark on this piece was in use circa 1910s-1920s. Maker/Marks : H&C Selb Bavaria/see photo of back for mark in green, and signature of Ida Sommer in gold. Approximate Measurements : please see photos with rulers and category details above. Our photographs reveal the condition best — please enlarge and zoom in on them, and examine them carefully. We often add graphics such as arrows, circles, and text boxes to our photos to point out things of interest that might be hard to see, such as a price tag or maker’s mark, as well as to highlight many condition flaws. Very clean and fresh piece in remarkable condition for its age. There is a bit of gold loss in one spot along the rim, but otherwise, gold is bright and shiny and nearly 100% present. Just some very light wear that isn’t noticeable unless you’re right on top of it, looking for it. One glaze pop in the interior of the bowl — see photo highlighting it. No chips or cracks, and no silver/gray utensil marks, stains or noticeable scratches. We consider funky odors (cigarette smoke, mildew, etc) to be an important part of a condition report. Corndogcache is a 100% non-smoking environment, and we’ll let you know if any of our vintage items smell like it (or anything else) from activities they may have been involved in before they came to us. If you’re unable to pay within terms, please reach out with your Plan B. So just shoot us a message. If we messed up — everybody does — give us a chance to fix it.
