Offered for sale is a Beautiful Antique Roseville Art Pottery Fern Bowl or planter in the Scarce “Tourist” Pattern. This Wonderful Creamware pattern was introduced in 1916. This handpainted piece features a traveler in their touring car, birds (rooster and goose), house, trees and grass. Beautifully finished in a cream colored glaze. 5 3/4 inches wide by 3 inches tall. This piece is unmarked. According to the research I did, this pattern was not marked. Unmarked similar pieces can be seen on page 93 in “Introducing Roseville Pottery” by Mark Bassett. Condition: No chips, breaks or repairs. The interior is nice and clean. There is a very small (3/8) tight hairline at the rim (Please refer to photo #10). There are about 5 glaze flakes to the brown paint on the rim. One is slightly larger than the others (please see photo #7). This piece has allover age crazing. There is a manufacturing flaw on the base. 3/16 inch long and oval shaped. I examined this with a 10x loupe and you can see the rough clay inside so I do believe this occurred when the piece was made (Please see photo #11). There is a stray tiny (1/4) line of green paint in the yellow road. There are some random dark specks thoughout – most likely impurities in the clay or glaze. There is some minor wear to the paint (face, houses, chicken, steering wheel). Minor wear and light scratches consistent with age and normal use. Please refer to photos. This RARE piece would make a Very Nice addition to any Roseville or Art Pottery Collection. PLEASE VIEW MY OTHER ITEMS FOR SALE. For your consideration, a pottery bowl made from start to finish by Arthur Eugene Baggs, Circa 1931, a major player in the Arts & Crafts pottery world, and more widely known as the owner/operator of Marblehead Pottery in MA from approximately 1910 until its closing in 1936. He started at Marblehead as only a teen, took over from Dr. Herbert Hall, and it became much of his life’s work. This bowl is dated 1931, and would have been made while Baggs was working at Ohio State University as the ceramics director during the school year, and Marblehead Pottery during the summers part-time. The glaze is especially superb, with a gloppy yellow color highlighted by turquoise (notice the turquoise bands around the rim) and my favorite part, the dark gray pepper like random spots on the piece. I’m not sure what look he was going for, but it’s a GREAT piece of pottery!!! Beautiful and intriguing to hold. No scratches, chips, cracks, or repairs of any type. There is crazing visible, commensurate with its age and glossy glaze. The bowl measures exactly five inches in diameter and is signed “AEB 1931″ in Baggs’ customary circle not unlike Marblehead. Fantastic piece to come to market by a pottery artist who studied under Charles Binns. Courtesy of Style 1900 magazine. YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED! Thank you for your interest! The item “Arthur E Baggs AMAZING GLAZE Marblehead Pottery bowl/vase C. 1931 Arts & Crafts” is in sale since Saturday, December 4, 2021. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Decorative Pottery & Glassware\Vases”. The seller is “trek2brian” and is located in Columbia, South Carolina. This item can be shipped to United States.

Antique Zanesville c1900 Arts & Crafts Era Cucumber Glaze Ribbed Vase Bowl. It is unmarked as Zanesville pottery is or numbered, this has no number. The vase has 4 feet. On the side it has a glaze flake. The top rim has wear conducive to age and use. The rim has 1 glaze flake. This type of pottery is becoming rare to find. MEASURES: 6 1/2″ x 5″. PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE! [aka ZSC], was one of the oldest pottery companies in North America. It was located in Zanesville, Ohio, along with approximately 31 other pottery companies in that same geographic area. In 1874 the Ohio Encaustic Tile Co. Which then reorganized to become the Zanesville Stoneware Co. ZSC was destroyed by a fire in 1990 and relocated to a neighboring area, however, it is apparently no longer in business. ZSC is a great pottery to collect because much of it is still affordable. The reason it is affordable is because a lot of it was not marked, so only experienced collectors know what to look for. However, once you know what to look for you will be hooked on this pottery. Because it is very versatile and can fit into just about any type of décor including modern or primitive. It is heavy, durable, functional, and beautiful pottery that can be used indoors or out. The shapes are simplistic, but charming and range in size from huge to about 4 inches. ZSC stoneware came in matte green, lavendar, blue, yellow, oyster, burgandy, aqua, and some blended and art glazes. Early stoneware pieces included jugs, crocks, chamber pots; poultry feeders; wash pitchers & bowls; spittoons, butter churns, roasters, bread bowls, fruit jars, dog bowls, atomizers, umbrella stands, etc. Massive hand turned stoneware oil and sand jars were made for the garden and for hotel lobbies, theatres, and office buildings. ZSC even produced a dinnerware line called Country Fare from the 1940s to the 1960s; a line that is very popular even today! ZSC also produced vases, flower frogs, bird baths, strawberry pots, novelties, and jardinaires. The clay on ZSC pottery comes off as a yellow buff color. You will likely see some of the yellow peeking through the glaze, or it will be apparent on the bottom. Some bottoms were glazed, some not, but you will see the yellowish clay 99% of the time. Most ZSC has pinpops, glaze misses, and runny glaze. Art pottery lines include: Matte Green, Neptune, (deep green w/copper); Vulcan; Ebonello; Zasko; Verdantone; Montrose, (see reference book listed at bottom for more info). Backstamps used on ZSC include incised stamp marks, raised marks, hand incised marks, circular stamp marks, block letter and number marks, and paper labels. For instance, a piece might be marked: Zasko, Country Fare, Pickrull, Wally Frank, ZSC, or with various florist stamps since ZSC was also made for florist shops, or no markings at all which is even more typical.
