Please view photos carefully as they are part of our Description. T his is a wonderful Vintage Mid Century hand-crafted and hand-decorated large Italian Art Pottery Platter, Bowl or Wall Decor Plaque. This signed and numbered piece was crafted by Elbee in Italy. The colorization on this piece adds to it’s unique character – the mid century aqua /turquoise tones (depends on your color interpretation) are a departure from many of Elbee’s creations. This spectacular piece measures nearly 2″ high x 12″ in diameter. Elbee’s traditional horse accents the center with sprigs of leaves for added interest. The Horse is hand painted in bright gold and white with the leaves in gold. The overall piece is aqua toned with what appears to be a crackle/crazed finish technique. The reverse is brown. Small “holes” and a wire have been crafted on the underside for wall display if preferred. In very nice Vintage condition with virtually no signs of use. These older pieces are quite fragile and prone to slight shaping irregularites, pottery skips or glazing/painting blemishes. As is expected, tiny skips and pops are evident along with several pottery blemishes. These faint issues to not detract from the unique quality of this Platter. The underside is hand marked. NOTE: This piece is a TRUE Elbee creation it is NOT a Fratelli Fanciullacci, Londi, Raymor, Bitossi etc. Designs (which are spectacular in their own right). The bright gold made photos a challenge we apologize for glare. Please Remember many of our items are Vintage, Antique, or preowned. Slight evidence of wear/use is to be expected. We attempt to note any obvious blemishes that we find. Photos are part of the description please review carefully. Any problems should be reported to us right away so we can attempt a resolution. The item “VINTAGE ITALIAN TRUE ELBEE AQUA TURQUOISE GOLD HORSE 12 BOWL WALL PLATE ITALY” is in sale since Monday, March 03, 2014. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Pottery & China\Art Pottery\Majolica”. The seller is “gswo” and is located in Springfield, Illinois. This item can be shipped to United States.

Amazing piece and huge. This measures 14 in diameter and is signed by artist Timothy Weber of Main Avenue Pottery Nashville, Tennessee. (Read more below) This could be a shallow bowl, tray or wall art. Check out his website online you will be impressed! He’s won many many awards. I accept reasonable offers and please include photos as part of the description. After four decades Timothy Weber still looks forward to working with clay for the rest of his life. He threw his first pot in high school in 1967 and only five years later was working full time as a potter. Weber estimates conservatively he has made over 150,000 pieces of functional and fine art clay pieces. From his studio, T. His career as clay artist, teacher, and administrator supports this truth. Army gave Weber his first full-time pottery work. Drafted for the Vietnam War, during basic training Weber fully comprehended his mission to kill in a war he did not believe in. After achieving conscientious objector status, he was assigned to the craft center at Fort Benning, Georgia, because of his background and abilities. After discharge, Weber took a workshop with the legendary master potter Charles Counts and became his apprentice and mentee. He trained in the Bauhaus tradition, learning an affection for radically simplified forms, an embrace of rationality and functionality, and that mass-production was reconcilable with the individual artistic spirit. After stints as visual arts, crafts, and media program director at the Tennessee Arts Commission and director of the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, Weber took a studio assistant job with international clay legend Sylvia Hyman. Under Hyman, Weber crafted many. It was great doing new things with the material. We worked hard, produced many wonderful pieces, and had a lot of fun. One of Webers lines is mass production functional stoneware decorated with restrained palette. (a beautifying revelation of the underlying earthen surface). The glaze brushwork has both tight and loose elements that lean slightly toward Asia. His other line is mixed media. Very different in style and execution. In these more mysterious pieces Weber says, I still carry my cultivated craftsmanship, but I marry it with spontaneity. Evocative references to spiritual, religious, or iconic forms emerge as whimsical incarnations. The resulting looser, ambiguous shapes allude to Webers inspirationprimitive aesthetics and sensibilities. Under his highly expert hands, circular structures reference human-scaled dwellings and shelters. Augmented with cryptic entryways and temple gates, his shrines that suggest rituals gain intrigue when coded with sculptural elements of wood and fiber. Of this work Weber says, They all allude to communication. Weber continues to produce and teach, and he looks forward to more commissions and dreams of making larger works. He say=s, Beyond making a living, clay has been a truly wonderful way to meet a lot of very interesting people. It gives me joy.
