Vintage Large Navajo Native American Black On Black Pottery Bowl Vase Mary Saxon

This is an Original piece from Navajo Artist Mary Saxon, Very well known Navajo potter Tuba City, AZ, This is a Black on Black Bowl and a very nice piece with a signature and rare bear claw design. I tried to get pics from all sides. This piece is in excellent condition and I have enjoyed it for years. The spots you can see on it is the light reflecting. No chips or scratches, the only few are on the bottom base near the signature (see pics). Don’t miss out on this rare and beautiful piece. I put a picture with a standard cable remote and a standard light bulb so you can see how big the vase is. 8.5 total width. 4 5/16th top opening. Offered here is a Vintage Arizona Native American Hopi Indian Pottery Bowl signed Annette Silas. Native American Hopi bowl signed: Annette Silas. Top of Bowl Diameter: 5 5/8. Very Good with some minor rubbings and scratches on the interior bottom of the bowl. Annette Silas’ mother, Roberta Silas lived in Polacca very near the prehistoric ruins of Sikyatki. On the First Mesa on the Hopi Reservation in Northeast Arizona Roberta was an active potter from 1960 – 1980′s. She was born in 1939 and started making pottery at 21 years old. None of her elders were potters. Roberta learned from helping Feather Woman (Helen Naha) sand and polish and prepare her mud. Roberta hid her work from people until her husband discovered her pottery. To date her pottery has won numerous awards and is collected. Roberta’s original designs are inspired from the pottery shards she found in the ruins of Sikyatki. She would sketch them and incorporate the themes into her work. Annette Silas is one of Roberta’s six of her eight daughters who learned from Roberta and became potters adapting their mother’s designs, style and patterns of painting. He engaged in lapidary work and making jewelry inspired by nature by electroplating metals directly onto natural items like miniature orchids, leaves, and feathers. He had a lifelong interest in orchid culturing and breeding, specializing in miniature peloric Phalaenopsis. He generously supported local artisans and sponsored programs at WonderLab promoting archeology or science of art. He was an active member of the Lawrence County Rock and Mineral Club. Rudi was passionate about natural history and Bloomington Indiana provided a unique environment for him to pursue his interests in archaeology, paleontology, geology, and fossil hunting while combining it with his love of canoeing, nature walks, wildlife and photography. He enthusiastically shared these interests with others. In 2013, Rudi and colleague David Dilcher donated 68 acres of land in Greene county to the Sycamore Land Trust known as the Dilcher-Turner Canyon Forest to preserve this natural wonder for others to enjoy.
