Available is a Vintage Large Round Colorful Pottery Bowl by Jack Charney. The bowl measures 17 inches by 16 inches and 3-1/2 inches tall. The bowl is symmetrical but not perfectly round. Jack Charney, Artist Statement. Jack’s art reflects not only the spirit found at home in New Mexico, but also the tastes of international adventure. Growing up in a military family, Jack spent much of his childhood traveling all over the world, including eight years in Europe. And he hasn’t stopped since – a practice he feels informs his artwork. When he was 17, his family settled in Florida and Jack discovered an interest in clay. Declining an opportunity to graduate high school a year early, in his senior year he concentrated on art classes. “It provided me with focus, ” Jack says. I realized this was what I wanted to spend my life doing. Jack studied at Antioch College, where he traveled for two years in South America, learning basic techniques he still uses from potters from San Miguel Allende and Ecuador. After graduating with degrees in Art, Latin American studies, and a secondary teacher certification, Jack taught at a school in Vermont where students hiked, traveled out west, and went winter camping in Canada and Maine. Jack next traveled to Europe, the Middle East, North Africa. He was there for two years, intending to take a third to travel down the Congo River, but an accident in Egypt brought this plan to a halt. He was badly injured. Recent trips have included visits to Burma, Peru, Chile, and France, where Jack explored pottery villages, hiked and sought new inspiration.

Vintage 1960s JACK HERMAN Signed Purple STUDIO ART POTTERY Platter Bowl. This is a magnificent, Gallery-quality piece, fully finished with glaze on sides and back. Signed on back by artist’J Herman’. Jack Herman regularly shows his pottery art at galleries in Canada and is VERY COLLECTIBLE. He is a Canadian icon in the art world. His wife Lorraine also is a pottery artist and they frequently exhibit their work together. Beautiful Mid Century Modern abstract pattern in center, piece has been glazed in an extremely interesting way drip style in mottled colors that gently run together. Lavender purple and soft blues against a natural tan/ green base with ochre accents and an ochre colored rim edge. Please note- colors on this piece are kaleidoscopic- they look much more blue in certain lighting, more pinkish purple in others- just amazing. This piece is wide with a shallow curved lip edge- can be viewed as either a wide bowl or a platter dish. 11.75Wide x approx. No chips, nicks, cracks, crazing or wear to glaze- in perfect shape. Colors are rich and vibrant, glaze is glossy and shiny. This piece is meant to be decorative and not used for food [although I suppose you could], in my opinion it would look best hung on a wall with a plate hanger [not included] or set on a table as a decorative dish. Fabulous piece, very unusual, great for a collector. As always, my items are packed with EXTRA bubble wrap and extreme care to insure a safe arrival.
