Vtg Frances Senska Bozeman Montana Studio Pottery Lidded Bowl Archie Bray. This exquisite piece has no cracks, but has a slight chip on the inner rim of the lid, which is not visible when looking at the piece. 8.5 wide from handle to handle, 7 diameter. A beautiful addition to any serious art pottery collection. Often called the mother of Montana art, ceramic artist Frances Senska has lived a rich life, from her roots in West Africa to her idyllic location on the banks of Bozeman Creek in Montana. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years, and her students include such pivotal artists as Rudy Autio and Peter Voulkos. Also, she was instrumental in the founding of the Archie Bray Foundation, literally helping to lay the bricks of the first pottery. Her work is functional and of the earth her clays dug locally and her glazes made from natural materials, many of them local as well and her surface decoration reflects her love of the nature that surrounds her as well as her memories from Africa. Beautiful vintage ceramic bowl made by notable Bozeman, Montana potter Frances Senska. The bowl measures approximately 5″ in diameter and 3 1/2″ tall. The piece has Senska’s original label Frances Senska, 2125 Sourdough Road. Bozeman, Montana, 59715 and her mark on the bottom. This piece has a brown glazed interior and flower designs on the exterior. It is in excellent condition with no chips. Please look at the photographs for color and. This pot was created by Frances Senska a well-known Bozeman, Montana. Studio potter and ceramic arts instructor. Clearly signed with her mark stamped on the base. The pot has no condition issues. Measures just over 12.25″ across top x 5.75″ tall and 4.75 across base. Weighs a hefty 5.5 pounds. Striking mottled green/brown/gray exterior with stunning variable mineral interior. Colors are glossy & vibrant. Signed in Shaner’s familiar script on base. Hard to discern without strong light but 100% guaranteed. One shallow indent on side – likely by artist’s hand (last photo). David Shaner received his M. From the Alfred University School Of Ceramics in the 1950′s. He later became the director of the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramics Arts in Helena, Montana.
