Santa Clara RED Mica Incised Pottery Bowl Linda Tafoya Sanchez Vintage 1980s. This is a sensational Santa Clara Red Mica Incised Pottery Bowl by Linda Tafoya Sanchez Vintage 1980s. This bowl is highly polished on the top and bottom and fired a deep polished red. The mid section of the jar is slipped in micaceous clay in matte finish and incised with rectangular sections leaning against each other. Measures approx 4″ tall x 6″ wide. Signed by the renown Santa Clara potter. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Born in 1962, Linda is the granddaughter of Santa Clara Pueblo pottery matriarch Margaret Tafoya and the daughter of Lee and Betty Tafoya. Being a descendant of Margaret Tafoya and pursuing a career in pottery requires a commitment to excellence and Linda has risen to the challenge with her graceful, magnificently carved designs. Her polishing work is so exceptional, she has come to be regarded as the best polisher in her family. During her first marriage, Linda moved to San Juan Pueblo. While her pottery continued in a Santa Clara style, she also began to design pieces that were influenced by traditional San Juan imagery. In the late 1980s, she was one of the first Santa Clara potters to begin using a micaceous slip to complement the polished and matte surfaces of her pottery. Linda lived at San Juan in the 1980s and so has often continued to use their distinctive style of designs in her pottery. The precision of the carving and the shine of the stone polished surface are continuing examples of why she is among the leading potters working today.
