2 Red Clay Vintage Bowls Pottery. The large bowl is about 7″ diameter, 4″ tall – red clay with black markings around the top, two handles, black paint on bottom. The small bowl is shallow, has handles and a lighter color – measures about 4″ diameter and about 1.5″ tall. Appear to be handmade. Some minor chipping around the top, otherwise in good condition based on age.
Established in Cambridge OH the 1930s, Universal Potteries produced the Ballerina line from the late forties and fifties. Their dinnerware proved to be exceptionally popular during this period because it was both oven proof and dishwasher safe. It also denotes a understated simplistic, subtle air of quality, without the pretensions of that era. This collection consists of 5-pie plates, 4 casserole dishes with vented lid, 1 small and 1 large mixing bowl and 1 pitcher. This is from Universal Potteries, Ballerina Collection, Yellow Daisy, sometime mid-Century. They are super heavy, oven-proof and so cool. No chips or cracks. I had a bunch more and chose only the pieces that had no damage. A couple of pieces need additional cleaning, probably with a magic eraser. They have been stored in the basement for 30+ years. 5 pie plates-9.25″ diameter, 1.5″ height. 4 casserole dishes-8′ diameter, 3 height. 1-small mixing bowl-6.25″ diameter, 3.5″ height. 1-large mixing bowl-7.25″ diameter, 4″ height.
