Vintage ACOMA PUEBLO Bowl Pottery Signed by LUCY M. Lewis was from the Acoma Pueblo and was the last of the Acoma matriarchs. She was largely responsible for the revival of black and white designs on traditional handcoiled Acoma pottery. Many of these designs are more then 1000 years old. When creating her pottery, Lucy M. Lewis followed pueblo traditions in every step of her pottery making, from prayers during each step, handcoiling and outdoor firing of her pottery. This beautiful bowl measures approx. 3 1/8″ tall x 4 1/4″ wide. Overall it is in really good condition with no cracks, breaks or repairs. It does have quite a few small chips around the entire bowl (see pics). Not sure of it’s date but it was a part of my grandmother’s collection and has been in my family for over 40 years. VINTAGE Acoma Laguna Pottery Pueblo Dough Bowl Signed VPino Laguna 1990. Interested in more than one item? This Acoma Laguna Pottery is a traditional beauty built in the style of old dough bowls. From local & hand built clay, this polychrome olla was yucca brush painted with black & red on cream. The bold banded design wraps its way around in balanced patterns. It measures 5-1/4″ tall & almost 8″ wide. Signed under the base, VPino Laguna. Excellent paint with one small chip in the rim. A cultural heritage is embodied in this Acoma Laguna Pottery and it’s one-of-kind! Traditional Acoma pottery is made using a slate-like clay found within the hills surrounding the Pueblo. When fired using traditional methods, this clay allows the potters to form very thin walls, a common and sought after characteristic of Acoma pottery. Although hand coiled pottery is preferred for its collectability, there are many fine Acoma artists who prefer to use pour molded or greenware pots as their canvas. We carry a wide range of Acoma pottery from artists like Sandra Victorino, Judy Lewis, Theresa Garcia-Salvador, Terrance Chino, Jay Vallo, Myron Sarracino, Paula Estevan, Carolyn Concho and many more.
