Incredible 7 3/8 dia. Footed Studio Art Pottery Bowl, Signed Matt Kelleher, Very Good Condition. This listing is for a museum quality studio art pottery bowl by master artist and professor Matt Kelleher. A similar bowl by the artist is part of the collection of David and Louise Rosenfield hosted by the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York. Standing 3″ tall on a 2 7/8″ base, this 2 ΒΌ deep pottery bowl is a wonderful example of contemporary American art pottery. The hand-made quality constructed pottery bowl is in very good condition with no chips, no cracks, and no post-studio damage. The matte glazing can best be described as “other worldly” and is truly exceptional. The 7 3/8 rim is highlighted by a glass like gloss glaze. This hand-crafted studio pottery bowl has a 16-ounce capacity. A clear chop mark identifying the master craftsman as Matt Kelleher can be found on the base. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to own a piece of studio art pottery by one of today’s most gifted artists. From the artist’s website. Matt Kelleher is an assistant professor at Alfred University. He brings ten years’ experience as a studio potter to this position that includes a three-year residency at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. He received his MFA in 1999 from University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he studied with Gail Kendall, Peter Pinnell, and Eddie Dominguez. Matt was also an Artist in Residence at the Archie Bray Foundation, Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Shigaraki, Japan, and most recently at Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in Jingdezhen, China. Matt Kelleher is known for his investigation of soda-fired tableware, including jars, boxes and serving pieces. He has broadened his practice to include sculptural vessels, bird inspired forms, and collaborative work with Shoko Teruyama, his wife. Kelleher studied with Victor Babu and Ken Ferguson at Kansas City Art Institute and with Gail Kendall, Peter Pinnell and Eddie Dominguez at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts, Helena, Montana. Newman University – Steckline Collection, Wichita, Kansas. Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park Resident Collection, Shigaraki, Japan. Which may be used for food or drink are individually tested for lead and the results are shown in the listings. Vintage pieces often contain lead. Please make sure all studio pottery pieces, old or new, used for food or drink are tested for lead! According to the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA)… Today many potters of traditional or’folk’ pottery have switched to non-lead glazes, but they may still be using old kilns that were once used for firing lead-containing glazes, unintentionally contaminating the’lead free’ pottery with lead residues that remain in the kiln from past usage. Because the lead may not fuse into the non-lead glaze, it may contaminate food when the pottery is used with food. If you have any questions, please ask.
