The remarkable Carl Tielsch Porcelain Divided Lobster Dish. A perfect lobster extends legs, claws antennae and an arched tail used as a handle for this provocative double sided clam shaped seafood dish. The lobster is carefully hand painted a traditional lobster red color. The clam shells are Pink/White and decorated with shiny gold gilt. The entire piece is 14 length and 11 width and 4 ½ height. This piece dates to the late 1800s and displays a faded blue eagle mark on the bottom. To be very accurate does have a small chip around the rim. However, this piece is so over the top exuberant, the loss is hardly noticeable. All items are described & Pictures. To the best of my ability and knowledge. This graceful vintage hand-painted mid-century modern Metlox Poppytrail Vernon Free Form divided twin vegetable bowl is fresh from a Florida estate. This is a large beauty! It measures 14-1/2″ long (long bowl) and 13-1/4″ at its widest point. It is, as far as I can tell, in excellent condition! I see no utensil marks, no scratches, no chips, no crazing; I’m not calling this “mint” merely because there are a couple of random marks on the bottom. There are only the usual kiln tripod support and scuff marks. These are original to the piece. There is what I think is a smudged Metlox’M’ on the bottom of the piece. My passion is saving vintage beauties and finding new owners for them. I want you to receive them in the same condition that I found them. According to my research, Metlox made three similar Poppytrail – Vernon patterns in this midcentury design: California Contempora, Mobile, and Free Form. All feature essentially the same design, but with different colorways. All are discontinued (the factory is long closed). These pattern lines all originated in the 1950s. According to Kovel’s web site: Metlox Potteries was founded in 1927 in Manhattan Beach, California. Prouty and his son Willis founded the pottery. Dinnerware was made beginning in 1931. The factory closed in 1989. Please look at my other listings for Metlox Free Form and California Contempora! Serving pieces, bowls, plates. All estate-fresh, excellent to mint condition. The item “Vtg Metlox Poppytrail Free Form Divided Twin Vegetable Bowl RARE EXCELLENT MCM” is in sale since Saturday, March 17, 2018.
