VINTAGE 1950′s ROSE GONZALES SAN ILDEFONSO PUEBLO CARVED BLACK POTTERY BOWL. Being offered today is a lovely black pottery bowl created by Rose Gonzales and believed to date to the 1950′s. The piece is in very nice overall condition with no chips or cracks. The polished finish does have some very light scratches and a flea bite to the surface. Vintage Santa Clara AVANYU Red Bowl Pottery Hand Carved by Mary Cain (d) c1970s. This is the classic Santa Clara redware pottery and features the symbolic Avanyu serpent around the bowl. There are additional designs to encompass the body as the bowl is turned. It is highly polished and the background has the traditional cream colored clay slip. Measures approx 4 1/2″ tall x 5 1/2″ wide. It is signed on the bottom, Mary Cain. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. A sensational vintage Santa Clara redware Avanyu pottery bowl to add to your collection! Born in 1916, Mary Cain actively made redware and blackware since 1930. She was taught by her mother, Christina Naranjo and her grandmother, Sara Fina Tafoya. She won numerous awards throughout the years and her pottery items continue to remain much sought after by collectors around the world. Santa Clara Pueblo potter, Mary Cain, passed away Thursday, 22 April 2010, at age 95. Mary, whose Tewa name was Blue Rain, was a granddaughter of Sara Fina Tafoya and daughter of Christina Naranjo and she was the grandmother of famous Santa Clara artist Tammy Garcia and Autumn Borts. Vintage 1973 Margaret Tafoya carved redware pottery bowl in very good, used condition. The bottom is marked in pencil Margaret Tafoya Santa Clara 1973. Bowl measures 6″ in diameter and 2 1/4″ high. Overall a very nice piece, shows some wear (see photos); there are no chips but there is a 1 hairline crack descending from the rim–should be visible in the last photo. Beautiful Santa Clara Blackware Carved pottery bowl. Excellent condition, no cracks, chips, and no repairs. (any spots you see in pictures are from lighting). Please closely examine pictures of actual item to ascertain its great form, high quality workmanship, and overall great condition. It is 5 1/2″ Wide X 3 1/2″ Tall with a 3 1/4 opening. It is signed, but considering the age of the pot it is very difficult to decipher the name, can read the name Nancy but the rest is too worn. Will be carefully packed and double boxed.
