Vintage 1976 KAETE BRITTIN SHAW Studio Pottery PORCELAIN LOW BOWL. This sleek, organic bowl has a Japanese feel to it in design and decoration. It has a frogskin green glaze in alternating darker and lighter tones which give the interior a topographical feel to it. The interior is adorned with gold lines which also resemble lines on a map. There is a thickly applied bronzed scalloped border around the bowl. This wonderful bowl measures 12 3/4 at its widest and stands 2 high at its tallest. It is in mint condition – no chips, cracks or repairs – and is signed by the artist on the bottom, Kaete Shaw, and dated 76. The porcelain work of High Falls, New York ceramist Kaete Brittin Shaw spans both the functional and the sculptural realms and is included in several notable museum collections including the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution and the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina.
