VTG California Studio Pottery Double Wall Perforated Stoneware Ikebana Bowl 9. This vintage California studio pottery bowl was made in the United States between the late 1970s and 1990s. Handcrafted in fine speckled stoneware, it features an advanced double-walled construction comprising a watertight inner bowl enclosed by a hand-perforated outer wall. Finished in a richly varied reduction glaze of olive, black, and burgundy tones, the vessel measures approximately 9 inches in diameter. The sculptural form demonstrates a high level of technical skill, with hundreds of individually hand-punched perforations creating a mesh-like outer surface that contrasts with the smooth glazed interior. Burgundy highlights emerge naturally where the reduction glaze breaks across the raised edges, enhancing the vessel’s depth and texture. The shallow, broad foot provides a low centre of gravity, reflecting thoughtful engineering for both stability and everyday use. Likely conceived as a functional work of art, the vessel is well suited as an ikebana flower arranger, sculptural centrepiece, or decorative planter for bulb forcing. Its combination of innovative construction, organic form, and reduction-fired surface places it firmly within the tradition of late twentieth-century California studio ceramics.
