Item Description: Up for sale is a striking, highly textured vintage studio art pottery bowl featuring a beautifully executed hand-painted and incised twin Koi Fish motif. This masterfully constructed piece features a unique “double-edge” layered rim with a vibrant turquoise/teal glazed lip. The piece has been created using traditional western Raku firing methods. The white bodies of the koi fish showcase a deeply carbon-stained crackle glaze, while the surrounding background utilizes heavy mineral washes. The underside of the bowl is spectacular, exhibiting a rugged, dark reduced-charcoal clay body framing a brilliant, iridescent metallic copper/rainbow “oil slick” flash glaze effect. The base is cleanly hand-signed “Nora” incised directly into the wet clay prior to firing.
