Offered here is a Vintage Arizona Native American Hopi Indian Pottery Bowl signed Annette Silas. Native American Hopi bowl signed: Annette Silas. Top of Bowl Diameter: 5 5/8. Very Good with some minor rubbings and scratches on the interior bottom of the bowl. Annette Silas’ mother, Roberta Silas lived in Polacca very near the prehistoric ruins of Sikyatki. On the First Mesa on the Hopi Reservation in Northeast Arizona Roberta was an active potter from 1960 – 1980′s. She was born in 1939 and started making pottery at 21 years old. None of her elders were potters. Roberta learned from helping Feather Woman (Helen Naha) sand and polish and prepare her mud. Roberta hid her work from people until her husband discovered her pottery. To date her pottery has won numerous awards and is collected. Roberta’s original designs are inspired from the pottery shards she found in the ruins of Sikyatki. She would sketch them and incorporate the themes into her work. Annette Silas is one of Roberta’s six of her eight daughters who learned from Roberta and became potters adapting their mother’s designs, style and patterns of painting.
