Rare, and quite difficult to find. Vintage John Maltby lidded dish – perfect for trinkets, jewelry, hide-a-key, etc. Features a glossy glaze with a striking Japanese Asian inspired design. Quite unlike his other works that I’ve been able to find online. The dish feels well balanced, and the lid fits the box perfectly. No chips, cracks, or damage that I can see. Please see all photos for measurements. Please feel free to send me an offer?? Thank you for supporting our small business!

DESCRIPTION: This beautifully conceived piece is a squared concave bowl that rests on four nicely placed feet. A vibrant artful interior features alternating creamy white and sky blue rectangular patches. These provide the backdrop for a black line drawn cityscape with implied high rise buildings topped with roof antennae or, perhaps, church spires. Silver leaf and black adornments- in solids and grids- are interspersed, as well. The bottom of the bowl has a warm speckled gray glaze. This highly collectible work measures approximately 7 ¾ square and rises to 2 ¼ high at its four corners. It is in mint condition- no chips, cracks or repairs- and has the potters personal stamp on the bottom. ABOUT JOHN MALTBY: John Maltby was born in. It could be said that he has had three distinct clay careers, the combination of which has kept him at the forefront of British ceramics for the better part of four decades. After working with David Leach, he set up his own pottery in 1966 at Crediton in. Where he made domestic ware in the Leach tradition. By the 1970s he had begun to develop more sculptural vessels. After a major illness in 1996 left him no longer able to throw pots, he turned to small-scale sculpture that often combine animal and figure forms and have an ancient, timeless feel to them. John Maltbys work from all three phases of his creative journey can be found in virtually every major British collection and is coveted by collectors worldwide. THANKS for looking and GOOD LUCK.
