This is a darling vintage piece of McCarty Pottery Merigold, MS. It is just over 6 inches across. It has lots of tiny chips on the edges and one on the bottom- pics show them all. Many would be expected on a piece this old. As you can see from the pics the chips are not as noticeable from that view. Its a great old piece! THIS MEASURES ALMOST 14″ ACROSS ALMOST 6″ DEEP AND 5 TALL MEASURED FROM THE BACK. THIS HAS BEEN DISPLAYED ONLY! VINTAGE CONDITION, ONLY A TINY SURFACE SCRAPE LIKE SLIT SHOWN ON BOTTOM. This bowl was part of my Grandmother’s estate and was gifted to her back in the 60′s when my grandparents did their snowbird journeys between Michigan and Biloxi, MS. Their station wagon blew it’s water pump seal on a back road in Mississippi, and they were assisted by Lee McCarty who towed them to a shade tree mechanic he knew. After their car was fixed, Lee invited them to have dinner at their home, where my kin discovered the McCarty Pottery world. My Grandmother was a strict school teacher back in the one room schoolhouse days, and I know she was fanatically honest. She died in 2006 at age 97. This was passed on to me, and I hoped I could give it to my daughter, but she cares nothing for pottery or antiques. The bowl measures 9 1/2″ across at the top and just over 6 ” high, and weighs nearly 5 lbs. You can see the fascinating clay coil process near the bowl’s top just under the glazed edge. The bowl bears 2 McCarty signatures! Possibly Lee and Pup both signed it? It broke my heart to hear of. Lee’s recent passing. Because of that brief encounter my Grandparents had with them. Hearing my Grandmas story of this bowl all my younger life made me feel a part of it, always precise and proof to her that good people DO exist in this world. I will pack this bowl like it’s my heart being sent off to a new life, and it sort of feels like it. Whoever wins this, please pass on the goodness that the McCartys showed to my relatives when they were in a tough spot.
