Fantastically Whimsical Handmade Pottery Bowl with Figurine of Woman inside. Large bowl- 12 inches across. Artist Signed at bottom- Solveig Cox. Solveig Cox was a well known potter from Northern Virginia. Solveig Cox was a potter. For more than forty years before her passing in 2017. She was born in New York City and attended Bennington College where she began working with a potter’s wheel. From the beginning, clay has been her medium to express her ideas about women and later cats. This is a wonderful and RARE find from the renowned pottery Solveig Cox. Vintage Mid Century Solveig Cox Studio Pottery Nude Woman large Bowl. (Virginia, 1931 – 2017). Was a gifted artist and sculptor and worked at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia. The artist who passed in 2017 was affectionately known in the artistic community as “the cat lady” due to her whimsical interpretation of cats in a good percentage of her later work. But prior she focused on this type of hand formed & hand thrown female works. This is a piece she made early in her career approx. At the age of 30. This piece features a hand crafted nude woman with spaghetti style hair. The Bowl is signed on the bottom. Solveig Cox and measures 2.5″ tall x13.5″ diameter. The unique Bowl is in nice preowned condition with only one chip. Please refer to #8,9 pictures for more details. It’s from a smoke/pet free home.
