Proudly presented today is this lovely Hopi Sikyatki Style shallow bowl. Measuring 5 and a half inches in diameter and 2 inches tall, it was created around 1900, and depicts a stylized eagle and a bear claw. It also displays a spirit line, the spiritual gap in the framing line that allows the potter’s spirit to escape from the jar when it is complete. It dates from the early stages of the Hopi pottery revival, and was made by a contemporary of Nampeyo. It is of course far to old for a signature, although it was obviously someone well-versed in the Sikyatki Revival Style. The piece shows almost no wear, and has a beautiful patina of age.
