A highly collectable and decorative piece of vintage porcelain circa 1980s – 90s. A hand thrown beautifully simple and very elegant porcelain bowl by a renowned British ceramicist and writer, Peter Lane, who operates from a studio in Tavistock, Devon, England. It has his incised signature on the base. The background colour varies from sky blue towards the rim to dusky pink at the centre. It has a matte, mottled glaze and there is a contrasting dusky pink wavy reed type pattern radiating from the centre of the bowl to the rim. It is 9 dia. It weighs 553g unpacked and is in good condition with a little crazing to the centre of the bowl but we presume this dates from the manufacture and is part of the design. On offer here we have a highly collectable and decorative piece of vintage circa 1980s – 90s hand thrown porcelain by a renowned British ceramicist and writer, Peter Lane. This beautifully simple and very elegant bowl has the incised signature on the base of Peter Lane who operates from a studio in Tavistock, Devon, England. His ceramics have been widely exhibited in Europe, North America, Australia and Kuwait. He has lectured and given numerous workshop demonstrations around Britain, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States of America. He is also the author of a number of books on potting and pottery. Elected a Member of the International Academy of Ceramics (Geneva); an Honorary Fellow of the Craft Potters’ Association of Great Britain; and Fellow of the Society of Designer-Craftsmen, his work is included, also in the British Crafts Council’s selective Index, Craftsmen of Quality. In 1987, Peter resigned as a Senior Lecturer / Fellow at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, to concentrate fully on his own creative work and writing about contemporary ceramics. Peter Lane’s current work, attempts to capture the luminosity and qualities of light and colour through a series of porcelain bowls and vessel forms. The bowl is very finely and thinly made and has a most attractive shape with the circular bowl tapering down to a narrow foot. It has a matte, mottled glaze and there is a contrasting dusky pink wavy reed type pattern radiating from the centre of the bowl to the rim, giving a most attractive effect. The underside of the bowl is a mottled blue/pink. The bowl has a diameter of 9 inches and stands 2 3/4 inches high.
