Historical Staffordshire Dark Blue Gravy Tureen Lion Handles Bridge Scene Circa. This almost 200 year sauce tureen measure 8″ by 4.1″ wide and 2.75 tall with lid off. Lid have a chip on the under rim which appear to be a production flaw. Tureen is in very good condition with the exception of crazing and staining as can be seen in the pictures. RARE VINTAGE 60′S. This is a rare vintage mid-century lion bowl/planter by Italian ceramics designer Giovanni DeSimone. It’s never been used and is in excellent condition with no damage or other “issues”. It stands about 7 1/2″ tall, measures about 6 3/4″ long from tail to nose, and is about 5 1/4 wide. It weighs just under 2 lbs. This beautiful and functional piece would make a nice addition to any art pottery collection and will look great anywhere you put it. Giovanni De Simone was born 1930 and opened his studio after World War II around 1947. He died in 1991 in Palermo, Italy. Giovanni De Simone was a celebrated Italian ceramic designer. He studied at the School of Ceramics in Faenza, Italy, where he was taught by Angel Biancini and Anselmo Bucci. Previously he had attended school at Liceo Tasso in Rome. He worked from his studio in Palermo where he used oven firing to make the lead free colors permanent on his Majolica ceramics. His work is characterized by intense colors and his drawing style is often compared to Picassos. During World War II his mother and father were imprisoned in a concentration camp. He was responsible for caring for his sister during this time. Eventually he and his sister joined their mother in the concentration camp. Following the war the family was repatriated and reunited in Rome. But soon the family moved into Romagna, a territory in central Italy and home of his mother. The choice of Romagna proved decisive for the life of the young Giovanni, he enrolled in famed Instituto dArte per la Ceramica founded by in Faenza. He had found his home. THIS IS A MAGNIFICENT PIECE! Great for the collector , uHand made and painted heavy pottery bowl. Embossed and painted in the pattern of a lion’s face. Bowl is 9.5 wide and 10 from top of bowl to bottom and 2 tall. The bowl is stamped made in Italy on the bottom. Has two holes on back for hanging. This is a heavy piece weighing approx 4 lbs without being packed up! Please know all the sales I make go towards care for my yorkies. I have 5 rescues , 2 of them have liver shunts , and they have seizures , they have to take seizure meds every 8 hours. Now my oldest one who is turning 14 in july has been diagnosed this week with cushings disease. I have been crying my eyes out just knowing he is sick. It feels like someone has ripped my heart out and smashed it to the floor and then pounced on it. This is a very expensive disease to get. It requires blood work and urine testing. He will have to go on a chemo drug which is expensive and then be monitored for bloodwork every couple of months.
