Unique set of Louisville Pottery Stoneware. Based on a little research John B Taylor was at Louisville Pottery. Some of the Louisville Pottery seems to resemble M A Hadley because she was at Louisville also until she started her own business. The bowl is marked on the bottom – but unfortunately the mark is not complete. I have attached a clear and complete makers mark of John B Taylor that is labeled sample. The likeness can be seen from the example to what is on the bottom of the bowl. Please review pictures for size and condition. Unfortunately one of the mug handles has repair and there is a fracture on the side of the bowl. The fracture does not seem to affect the integrity of the bowl. Thank You for the interest!

Historical documentation from The Pottery & Glass-Brass Salesman indicates the company operated under various names over time: initially as J. Maddock from 1842 to 1855, then J. Maddock & Son from circa 1855 to 1870, and J. Maddock & Sons from circa 1870 to 1896. In 1896, it incorporated as John Maddock & Sons Ltd, suggesting that the absence of “Ltd” in the user’s description points to a manufacturing date before 1896. Given the user’s mention of “John Maddock and Sons” without “Ltd, ” it aligns with the period from 1870 to 1896, a common timeframe for their export ware marked with Ethe bowl was made by John Maddock & Sons between 1870 and 1896 in Staffordshire, England, based on historical records. Very large basin excellent in used condition.

Rare, and quite difficult to find. Vintage John Maltby lidded dish – perfect for trinkets, jewelry, hide-a-key, etc. Features a glossy glaze with a striking Japanese Asian inspired design. Quite unlike his other works that I’ve been able to find online. The dish feels well balanced, and the lid fits the box perfectly. No chips, cracks, or damage that I can see. There he mentored numerous young artists through his assistantship program. Among his accolades are two Louis Comfort Tiffany awards, and two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships.
