Prussia Reinhold Schlegelmilch Scenic Porcelain Bowl, circa 1900. Beautiful and highly decorative R. Prussia porcelain scenic bowl by Reinhold Schlegelmilch, dating to the turn of the 20th century. This substantial oval bowl features an elaborate molded and scalloped form with pierced open handles, dramatic purple, lavender, amber and cream coloration, and extensive gold-gilt and delicate gold stencil decoration. The center features a detailed European waterside landscape, depicting a church with tall steeple, surrounding buildings and trees, figures along the shoreline, and a small sailboat on the water. The scenic decoration is framed by richly shaded porcelain and an ornate molded border, creating a particularly striking display piece. The underside bears the distinctive red R. Prussia star-and-wreath factory mark with “Prussia” beneath, associated with Reinhold Schlegelmilch porcelain production. Form: Scenic handled bowl / decorative serving bowl. Decoration: European church, architectural landscape, figures, water and sailboat. Colors: Purple, lavender, amber, cream, gold and multicolor. Features: Pierced handles, deeply molded scalloped rim, scenic decoration, gilt accents and gold stencil ornament. Origin: Prussia / Germany. Prussia red star-and-wreath factory mark. The combination of the architectural scenic subject, elaborate molded form, pierced handles, dramatic coloration and extensive gilding makes this a particularly attractive example of R. An excellent addition to a collection of R. Prussia, Reinhold Schlegelmilch, antique German porcelain, Art Nouveau porcelain or European scenic ceramics.
