Stephen POLCHERT Vintage Studio Pottery DECORATED BOWL MCM Natzler/Grotell Era. 7? ” wide x 3? ” tall. Unusual decorated early 1970′s vintage Stephen Polchert modernist studio art pottery bowl. Polchert rarely decorated his pots, but when he did so, it was sparingly but very effective, and the minimalist volcanic brown diagonal line decoration used in this example really adds to the visual appeal of the bowl. All sides of the bowl are represented in the photos. An artist often identified with the Eames-Natzler era, Stephen Polchert was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1920. After serving in the South Pacific during World War II, he studied art at the Layton School of Art and the University of Chicago. Polchert then received his M. From the Cranbrook Academy of Fine Arts in Michigan, where he was an assistant to Finnish artist Maija Grotell. His work has since been exhibited throughout the country, including five international shows at the Smithsonian Institute and in at least ten permanent museum collections, including the Syracuse Museum of Fine Arts, the Milwaukee Art Institute, and the Joslyn Art Memorial, as well as in numerous private collections. Set decorators have used Polchert’s pieces in the movies The Usual Suspects, and Corinna, Corinna, and he has been commissioned to create works for churches and offices throughout the Midwest. In addition to teaching at colleges and high schools, Polchert taught ceramics at Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Town for over twenty years. Stephen Polchert died tragically on February 6, 2008, Ash Wednesday– he was hit and killed by a car while waiting in his driveway for his ride to Mass.

Being offered is a vintage, old, Maricopa Indian made pottery bowl. The bowl has stylized decorations which look like a bird head. The bowl does show age related wearing like surface scuffs, abrasions, and scratches. There are a few tiny edge nips, and the black design is wearing or fading in places. This Vintage Faux Malachite Porcelain Medici Pedestal Bowl is a beautiful centerpiece adorned in a green color, reminiscent of the Medici style. Made of porcelain and with a production style of art pottery from the 1950s, this unique bowl features an all-over pattern with gold edging that adds a touch of elegance to any space. The inside color is a creamy yellow and there is some crazing inside which shows up as three lines in the bowl when washed, very minor, and some wear in the gold paint edging. The detailed craftsmanship and vintage charm make it a standout piece for decorative cookware, dinnerware, and serveware collections. It is 9.5 inches diameter and 5 inches tall, approximately. There is no marking. I did not take the felt off the bottom to check. At first I thought it looked hand painted, but upon further inspection, it may be decoupaged. Being offered is a large, vintage, Acoma Indian made art pottery bowl. This is an exceptional piece as the bowl was hand thrown and has thin wall construction. The piece is decorated with the classic colors, symbols and designs. The bowl shows typical age related wearing and has some surface scuffs, scratches, and color thinning in places. There is a glaze or slip color smear on one side from the manufacturing process. This is shown in one of the pics. The bowl is intact with no chips, cracks, or hairlines. Welcome to my site! VINTAGE ORIGINAL mexican POTTERY HAND DECORATED BOWL. With a RUFFLED RIM. Wonderful central motif of a Mexican man in sombrero playing his guitar surrounded by cactus. This slightly oblong bowl measures 8-8 3/4 across x 7 1/2 tall. This pottery bowl is substantial in weight. In very good overall condition. No chips or cracks, no repairs. Minor paint and glaze loss. The bowl has a red clay body, a blue green exterior, and what looks to be a blue grey interior with a crystaline glaze decorated with splashes of black strokes. It measures about 4 1/2 inches across and almost 2 inches high. It is signed on the bottom Mishi Nojima and the letter Q. It is in excellent condition. See photos as they are part of the description. Very rare set of covered bowls with sterling embellishments in a beautiful pattern. One is in excellent condition. The second has one crack and flea bite to the lid shown in pictures.
