VTG Noritake Hand Painted Footed Scallop Shell Candy Nut Bowl Nappy Japan. Presented for your consideration we offer this stunning, hand painted, footed porcelain candy or nut bowl, or perhaps nappy, made in Japan by Morimura for Noritake. Beautifully crafted, this footed bowl is in the shape of a scallop shell, with naturally occurring scalloped rim, remaining incrementally creased moving around both inside and outside, the interior hand painted in a landscape/ seascape, seemingly at sunset, as the orange, afternoon sky of the interior and upper half of exterior seems to be in the midst of being taken over by the pale blue on lower half of exterior (unless it is representing a continuation of the water from foreground on interior). Whatever it is truly representing, the colors are bold, though blended gracefully, the images of the cottage, tree, land and sea are depicted naturally and elegantly… I suspect this question could generate some interesting conversation / debate, placed upon a coffee or lamp table :. In excellent vintage condition, not even exhibiting the normal light surface scratches we ordinarily see. There are a few tiny pin-head size imperfections beneath paint, as commonly occurring during production in antique and vintage Nippon & Noritake (photos 9-12 are close-ups of exactly these small imperfections – the larger blueish dot seen on exterior in 3 photos actually OCCURS ONLY ONCE). Measures 8″ Long x 6″ Wide x 3 3/4 High at apex of longer end of shell. Mark is a burgundy Morimura’s “M” within a wreath beneath NORITAKE and above Hand Painted / Made in Japan.
