1987 HOPI VINTAGE HAND-COILED POTTERY BOWL. Notice the careful and precise use of the paint. The bowl has that attractive red-brown color which is so appealing about Hopi pottery. The good sized piece is is 2 3/4″ high and 5 3/8″ in diameter. Fannie was the youngest daughter of THE Nampeyo of Hano. Her children were Elva, Tonita, Leah, Harold, Ellsworth, Tom, and Iris. Fannie started making pottery around 1920, and did not date her work, so there is no way to tell the actual age of this bowl. This is almost a gallery grade item. Other than a bit of rubbing on the paint, it would be. The paint is fine and smooth, and there are no cracks, chips, hairlines, or any other physical damage. It is certainly above average for her pots, the youngest of which is now about 30 years old. Her signature is very clear and distinct where it wasn/y rubbed on the shelf. Most of my items are estate, vintage, hand-made or antique. They are not new; have been handled and enjoyed; and may well have age appropriate use wear. Hand-made pots invariably have irregularities or imperfections of some sort or other. I have never actually seen the perfect hand-made pot. Even photographs may not clearly show every possible irregularity and defect and indeed may exaggerate small imperfections into what appear to be major ones. Not everything appearing in a photograph will necessarily be mentioned specifically in the text. Here is your chance to own a highly collectible Fannie Nampeyo for a very reasonable price.
