Original Vintage Waylande Gregory Studio Pottery Fused Glass Bowl. Waylande Gregory was considered a major American sculptor during the 1930′s, although he worked in ceramics, rather than in the more traditional bronze or marble. Exhibiting his ceramic works at such significant American venues for sculpture as the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and at the venerable Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, he also showed his ceramic sculptures at leading New York City galleries. Gregory was the first modern ceramist to create large scale ceramic sculptures, some measuring more than 70 inches in height. Similar to the technique developed by the ancient Etruscans, he fired his ceramic sculptures. Gregory achieved critical success and reached the peak of his artistic powers in the 1930s. After 1940, he no longer created monumental ceramic sculptures, but instead focused on production porcelains in Many Leading retail stores such as Mary Ryan, Tiffany & Company, B. Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor , Neiman Marcus, Bonwit Tellers, Gump’s, Hammacher Schlemmer , and Many More. In 1942, Gregory filed a patent for his process of fusing glass to ceramic.
